Dear colleagues and friends,

As many of you already know, the Convention on Biological Diversity is
going to establish "International Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism",
following the invitation by the Commission for Sustainable Development.
The German Ministry is sponsoring an expert workshop in the Dominican
Republic from 4 to 7 June 2001, organized by the Secretariat of the
Convention.

Prior to this an advisory and expert group has been established to
create a set of papers as the basis for discussion at the workshop. The
papers are now ready but it will take a while before they appear on the
CBD-Homepage and it will be too late for making comments. Unfortunately
we have also not seen a transparent distribution of information about
the workshop and its aims by the Secretariat. The decision to launch a
workshop was taken at the last Conference of Parties in Nairobi, May
2000.

We feel it is necessary to inform you about this initiative by the
Secretariat and the German Ministry for Environment, even when the time
for reaction to the papers is very short. For this reason we have
created an internet platform, where you can look at the papers (look at
attached files!) and give your comments:

page.

We will collect all the comments and find a way of presenting them at
the workshop in June.

Please feel free to give any comments to the papers and please inform
your colleagues and other NGOs about this platform.
