Keynote Speakers:
Hector Ceballos-Lascurain
Is a Mexican environmentalist, architect, and ecotourism expert. He is
Director General of the Program of International Consultancy on
Ecotourism (PICE) and Special Advisor on Ecotourism to IUCN (The World
Conservation Union) and the World Tourism Organization (WTO). He is an
expert in the planning and development of sustainable tourism,
ecotourism, park management, and environmentally-friendly architectural
design, with worldwide experience in these fields.
Ron Mader
Is the creator of Planeta.com ecotourism site which has become
increasingly popular in the past few years. The site has won many
awards, including recognition from the Mexican government for the
exemplary coverage of Mexico online. Presidents Fox and Zedillo
presented Ron Mader with the Lente de Plata Award in 1999 and 2002. He
is also a world known expert on E marketing and a Journalist.
Simon McArthur
He is renown consultant for strategically bridging the gap between
heritage management, visitor management and tourism activity. Simon has
experience in planning and delivering tourism developments in highly
sensitive, high profile areas throughout the world, including Central
and South America, China and the Pacific Islands. Simon is also a
renowned author in his field. Simon holds a PhD in Tourism Management.
Amos Bien
Is TIES' new Director of International Programs. Amos, a U.S. citizen by
birth, has lived in Costa Rica since the 1970s and is the founder of
Rara Avis Rainforest Lodge and Reserve, widely viewed as the country's
first ecotourism lodge. In recent years, Amos has worked as a consultant
in Costa Rica and elsewhere on sustainable tourism guidelines norms, and
certification systems. He is past president of the Costa Rican Network
of Private Preserves.
Richard Murphy
Having traveled the world with the renowned Jacques Cousteau family for
30 years, observing connections between the environment and the quality
of peoples' lives, Dr. Murphy is now applying his knowledge to the
search for a sustainable future. With The International Ecotourism
Society, he has conducted a series of workshops on marine ecotourism,
focusing on coral reef ecology and sustainable management of coastal
resources.
Stephen Edwards
He is responsible for the management, development, implementation,
fundraising, and programmatic aspects of Conservation International
ecotourism projects in the Andes Region. Based in Quito, Ecuador, he
works collaboratively with CI’s country programs in the Andes, including
Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, as well as with other CI
programs around the world. Mr. Edwards has overseen and supported
ecotourism projects in Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa.

ecotourism and adventure travel, especially in developing and Latin
